Description

‘For Peter Loewy, thanks for making my place look so interesting.’ Alex Katz, 05.08.02

The photos of the artists’ studios are thought-provoking: How do we even imagine artistic work? What about the personalities behind the spaces? And what does our own creative place of longing look like? What also characterises this illustrated book are Peter Loewy’s image details. The studios are rarely seen in their entirety, so they remain somewhat mysterious. That’s what makes them so fascinating. Insights into artists’ studios – appreciation and curiosity.

Photos of 25 artists’ studios: Adnan, Ahearn, Baldessari, Cahn, Celmins, Close, de Waal, Erben, Gertsch, Hockney, Hodgkin, Hwami, Kalman, Katz, Koons, Lanigan-Schmitt, Nara, Otterness, Pettibon, Peyton, Reed, Richter, Rist, Rollins, Schmidt

Peter Loewy was born in Petach-Tikva (Israel) in 1951 and has lived in Germany, Frankfurt am Main, since 1956. He has been working as a freelance photographer since 1996. His photographs have been exhibited in museums and acquired by various collections.
