FAQ – Prix Photoforum 2025
How is the submission fee used?
The submission fee is used to fund the artist fees and prize money, as well as the general production costs. Since we don’t receive commercial sponsorship and it’s difficult to fundraise specifically for prizes, this contribution is essential.
Can I submit a work-in-progress?
Yes, works-in-progress can be submitted. Please note that the artist fee is CHF 500 and is meant to support the production of your exhibition.
What do I need to submit regarding the installation of my work?
We ask for an initial sketch or description of how you would present your work in the space. This helps the jury to understand your project in an exhibition context. The final presentation will be adapted in dialogue with the team, and the exhibition space assigned to you might be larger than the 5-meter wall mentioned.
What are my chances as an international artist?
Photoforum primarily supports artists based in Switzerland. Around 75% of submissions come from artists residing in Switzerland. However, international applications are welcome: last year, 2 out of 10 selected artists were based abroad. Please note that the artist fee is not higher for international artists and travel costs are not covered. Accommodation is provided to support attendance at the opening.
Is there an age restriction?
No. About half of the applicants are students, as they benefit from a reduced fee and the Prix often appeals to emerging artists. This means that graduation works or early-career projects are often among the selected ones.
Will I get individual feedback on my submission?
Unfortunately not. Due to the high volume of submissions, we cannot provide individual feedback. The selection process takes place in two rounds: a point-based preselection followed by in-depth discussion of the shortlisted works by all jury members, ensuring a diversity of perspectives is taken into account.
