Mehr erfahrenFor this year’s edition of the Biel/Bienne Festival of Photography entitled Recover, the Photoforum Pasquart gave a carte blanche to curator Sorana Munsya (DR Congo/Belgium) who proposes a solo presentation of the artist Joud Toamah. In her exhibition, Toamah will explore the power and possibilities of reparation held in the gesture of sharing images. The project 'The River Shines Stronger than the Sun, لمع†ان†النھر†أقوى†من†الش†مس† (2021-ongoing) uses archives of digitized images of family albums that the artist sources from acquaintances, friends and family members in Syria and the diaspora. Toamah collects pictures that have undergone processes of scanning, uploading, searching, cutting, pasting, renaming, compressing, downloading, forwarding, etc. As such, she is creating digital archives of private and intimate images. It is through circulating images that the artist Joud Toamah proposes a way to recreate bonds. In its digital journey of re-location, the image acquires consecutive layers of relationality (Petra Van Brabandt). By doing so, photography becomes a place where relation is possible.

The Photoforum Pasquart is pleased to announce its first artistic residency. The newly established residency programme aims to invite an artist, photographer or theorist for two months each year to carry out research on the photographic image and its contemporary challenges. The focus lies on investigating, discussing and locating photography in the context of the digital transformation, which is accompanied by a fragmentation and polarisation of global social space today. The results are presented in changing exhibition, talk and workshop formats and invite visitors to engage in a dialogue with the residents. Akosua Viktoria Adu-Sanyah (*1990) is an internationally exhibited and published German-Ghanaian visual artist and documentary photographer based in Zürich, Switzerland. Her work is frequently awarded for exploring new territories through image-making, research, and human connection. She believes in the diversity of thought and expression, which results in various practices that inform each other: she equally engages in documentary work and conceptual arts. Akosua Viktoria Adu-Sanyah received the Prix Photoforum 2020 and graduated in Fine Arts from the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar/Germany (2015). The artist and photographer's work has been exhibited internationally since 2012 and has received numerous nominations and awards.
