‘Oro Verde’ Ritual Inhabitual
9 June – 25 August
Opening: 8 June 2024
Oro Verde is a mythodocumentary that tells the story of the revolution of the P’urhépecha people in the central region of the state of Michoacán in Mexico. The project centres on a social uprising initiated by women who succeeded in driving one of the many violent drug cartels taking over the Mexican avocado industry out of Cherán. Based on the self-determination claims of indigenous peoples who place environmental protection at the heart of their political organisation, Ritual Inhabitual develops a narrative of insurrection by focusing on a ritual that the P’urhépecha maintain with the wild bees of the forests they protect.
Oro Verde is a co-production between the Biennale de la Photographie de Mulhouse, La Filature, Scène nationale de Mulhouse and the Photoforum Pasquart.
About the artists
Tito González García (*1977 in France) and Florencia Grisanti (*1983 in Chile) founded the Paris-based collective Ritual Inhabitual in 2013. Their work reflects on the role of rituals in the modern world, combining scientific knowledge with cultural and spiritual practices. Their award-winning projects, represented in international collections, explore environmental conflicts and cultural narratives through collaboration with communities and a multidisciplinary approach.
