Beyond Representation. New perspectives on photography.
Event with The Royal Photographic Society and artists of the Prix Photoforum 2022.
The portrait as a genre has dominated photography from the daguerreotypes of the 19th century to the selfies of our digital present. Which ideas and clichés dominate portrait photography today, for example in street or studio photography? How can outdated forms of representation be subverted and redefined? By introducing different approaches to an interpretation of photography and its function in art, Swiss members of The Royal Photographic Society will present their works. Afterwards, the participants of the Prix Photoforum 2022 will discuss their approach to photography in a round-table talk. Central to the debate will be questions of representation, experimentations with different media and collaborative image practices, as well as the search for new identity constructions beyond the dominant narratives in today’s society.
Schedule:
15.00-16.15h: Presentation of works by Swiss members of the Royal Photographic Society: Hakim Boulouiz, Beat Suter and Richard Tucker.
16.15-17.30: Roundtable Talk with artists of the Prix Photoforum 2022: Françoise Caraco, Matthieu Croizier, Marco Frauchiger, Lisa Mazenauer and Thalles Piaget, moderated by Jana J. Haeckel, Director Photoforum Pasquart.
