We are delighted to present the exhibition “How like a leaf I am” by Alexandra Baumgartner. This comprehensive exhibition project explores the complex relationships between humans and plant life and sheds light on our collective responsibility to protect and preserve agrobiodiversity. In collaboration with the Seed Carriers collective, Baumgartner uses photographic expressions, immersive audio installations and thoughtful scenographic elements to introduce visitors to the cyclical life form of plants and the importance of seed diversity.

About the artist

Alexandra Baumgartner (*1991 in Zurich, lives in Biel/Bienne) is a multidisciplinary artist who works primarily with photography, installation and other media. Her artistic practice is influenced by her background in architecture and a deep fascination for the built and natural environment. Baumgartner studied architecture at the Lebanese American University in Byblos and the École Spéciale d’Architecture in Paris and holds a BA in Islamic Studies and Modern History from the University of Zurich. She is currently studying Social Anthropology and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Bern.

Baumgartner’s work combines documentary approaches with artistic interpretations and collaborative methods. Her latest projects include photography, sound, performance and gardening and deal with the interactions between cultivated plants and humans. She is also involved in projects at the interface of art, culture and science, including the transdisciplinary project “Seed Carriers”, which addresses issues of agrobiodiversity loss and the right to seeds.
