21. Biel/Bienne Festival of Photography

Constant floods of images, technology everywhere, the excesses of a globalized society, and photographic challenges: these are some of the themes that are addressed by the photographers in the twenty-first edition of the Biel/Bienne Festival of Photography, which is focused on the notion of the extreme. The Biel/Bienne Festival presents the artworks from Ismaïl Bahri, Julian Charrière, Defrost Studio, Simon Rimaz, Jean Revillard und Katrin Streicher inside the Photoforum Pasquart’s exhibition space.

During the Biel/Bienne Festival of Photography, the Photoforum Pasquart presents Dominique Koch‘s (*1983) work Perpetual Operator.

The jellyfish Turritopsis Dohrnii has been described by biologists as practically immortal: it can regenerate its DNA up to fourteen times, and thus is technically able to be reborn. In the video Perpetual Operator, Dominique Koch juxtaposes the fate of this species with reflections by the sociologist Maurizio Lazzarato and by Franco “Bifo” Berardi. The jellyfish functions as a character within a complex arragement that comments on the state of a capitalist system on the verge of collapse, and compares it to the contemporary art paradigm.

An exhibition of Photoforum Pasquart.
